Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is still expecting to deal in the transfer market ahead of the deadline on September 1.
The Reds have already spent £89m on Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Lazar Markovic, Emre Can, Divock Origi and Rickie Lambert, having sold striker Luis Suarez to Barcelona for £75m.
"We still have some positions that we want to fill within the squad so that by the end of August we have a strong group of players to go forward with," he said.
"We've still got some business to do. We've brought in specific players for specific roles, players that have the profile of how we work.
"A lot of the players that have come in, the transition has been very smooth and that should make the adjustment that bit easier.
"Of course some of them are young and coming to a different country, like Emre Can. That will take a little bit of time. The players are transitioning very well, though it will take a little bit of time."

Manchester United are prepared to sell Shinji Kagawa this summer.
The Manchester Evening News says it is understood Louis van Gaal is keen to reduce the size of his squad with the axe hanging over Marouane Fellaini, Kagawa, Nani and Anderson.
With no Champions League football, Van Gaal is aiming to start the season with a squad of 22 or 23 players.
Borussia Dortmund would welcome the return of Kagawa, especially after seeing Robert Lewandowski leave for Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.
The Japanese midfielder spent two seasons at Dortmund before signing for United in 2012, winning the German title in both seasons.
Dortmund have already lost Lewandowski and Mario Gotze to Bayern. And they face having to sell Marco Reus next summer when a buy-out clause in his contract is activated.
There is still the possibility United could use Kagawa to ease through a deal for Mats Hummels, who Van Gaal has identified as one of his top defensive targets.

La Liga has ambitions to rival Premier League

La Liga has ambitions to rival Premier League
as_ronaldo
The president of Spain's top division says he wants to attract all the best players in the world to the country and rival the commercial power of the English Premier League, reports BBC Sport.
"We are not going to stop. We want the best 500 players," jokes La Liga boss Javier Tebas.
The Premier League's last domestic TV deal alone earned it £3.018bn.
"We want to make sure we have the biggest clubs and also the best players from the whole world in our league," said Tebas.
La Liga has a system whereby each club is allowed to negotiate their own TV deals and, while Barcelona and Real Madrid earned £110m last season, their rivals struggled to match that amount.
In contrast, the Premier League negotiates its TV deal on a collective basis.
"It is impossible to compare us with the Premier League from a commercial perspective," said Tebas. "What we are trying to do is get closer to them.
"We have been in Asia but right now our aim is to bring more teams from La Liga to this part of the world. We are working on this, it's a long-term project and is why we are here in the United States.
"There is a lot of support out here for Real Madrid and Barcelona. Our goal is to bring more teams here from La Liga so the football supporters in the United States can get used to them as well."

Manchester United legend Gary Neville is upset for Southampton fans over the dismantling of their squad.
Striker Rickie Lambert made a £4m switch to boyhood heroes Liverpool just before the World Cup and attacking midfielder Adam Lallana made the move to Anfield a few weeks later for £25m.
Left-back Luke Shaw made a £27m switch to Old Trafford and now fellow academy product Callum Chambers will join Arsenal for £12m.
Croatian defender Dejan Lovren is on the verge of a £20m transfer to join Lallana and Lambert at Anfield while Morgan Schneiderlin is interesting Arsenal and Tottenham.
Neville tweeted: "I thought Southampton would be raided and let 1-2 go and then dig in on the rest. It's a shame as they were good last year as a group.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is upset with Chelsea rival Jose Mourinho after discussing Luke Shaw's contract.
Mourinho insists Chelsea did not move for the new United fullback over his personal demands.
The Mail on Sunday says Van Gaal knows Mourinho tried to hijack Shaw’s £27million summer move to Old Trafford at the eleventh hour and is angry he is now trying to effectively portray the 19-year-old as a money-grabber.

Louis van Gaal is keen to bolster his midfield and is scouring the market following the blow that Arturo Vidal is not interested in a move to Old Trafford.
Guarin is one player who the Dutch boss has kept tabs on and the Serie A club believe swapping the Colombian for United's fringe striker will work for both parties.

Man Utd chief Woodward working on 'multi' transfer deals

Manchester United vice-chairman Ed Woodward is working on a series of deals going into the new week.
The Mail on Sunday says Woodward is seeking to finalise a series of signings over the next fortnight.
Given the complexities of top end deals especially after a World Cup he has a long shortlist.
But that is not a scattergun approach, just a way of making sure the club don’t get caught out like they were last summer when they devoted most of their time and focus trying to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.
When that fell through the club ran out of time to pursue other targets and David Moyes’ ill fated reign was undermined from the outset because of a decaying squad.

Debate: Does the New U.S. Women's Soccer League Stand a Chance?

Debate: Does the New U.S. Women's Soccer League Stand a Chance?
Debate: Does the New U.S. Women's Soccer League Stand a Chance?
The National Women's Soccer League—the third attempt at a professional women's soccer league in the U.S.—opens up its first season tomorrow.
Following the folding of the two previous leagues in three seasons each—the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) from 2001-2003 and Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) from 2009-2011—women's soccer proponents are hoping to avoid a hat trick of failure.
The new league features eight teams, five of which existed in one or both of the previous leagues.
But the big question is: How will this incarnation be different?
The new league has already taken two giant steps towards potential success. First, it's secured backing and support from soccer federations in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Second, it's chosen the right soccer markets.
Aside from pursuing smaller stadiums and lower game-day operations costs, the bulk of cost-cutting will come by way of U.S. Soccer. The federation will be running the front office of the league in addition to funding the participation of 24 national team players.
Canada and Mexico are each funding 16 of their national team players.
This initiative will not only ensure that national team players are paid deserving salaries, but most importantly, it'll lift the burden of big contracts for the big-name stars. While most WPS player salaries were pathetic and hardly sustainable—often falling under $30,000—Brazilian superstar Marta required $500,000 alone (ironically still just above a quarter of the average NFL salary).
Brazilian superstar Marta came with a hefty salary in the WPS. Image via ESPN.com
It was an unlikely coincidence when both WPS Los Angeles and Bay Area teams folded immediately after having Marta lead their charge. Los Angeles, who was also hosting games at the giant Home Depot Center, won a regular-season title in its last year as a club and the Bay Area won a league championship with the female Pele.
But glory was short-lived. This league will lack some of the bigger International stars like Marta, but U.S. National Team favorites like Abby Wambach, Hope Solo and Alex Morgan will be able to play without burdening their respective teams.
The eight women's soccer markets are Chicago, Boston, Portland, Seattle, Washington D.C., New Jersey, Kansas City and Rochester. And by the looks of it, it's a strong starting roster.
The last teams standing in the WPS included Boston (also in the WUSA), New Jersey and Rochester. The Chicago team left the league after two seasons, while the Washington D.C. franchise (another WUSA vet) changed ownership, relocated to Florida and became the center of a legal scandal that was the final kick in the league's imminent death. Rest assured however, that the revived Washington Freedom franchise has declared independence from all of that.
But the league couldn't have chosen three better new additions, all of which host popular Major League Soccer counterparts. The Pacific Northwest, especially, is not just well-known to house the two most passionate MLS fanbases, but it also sports the most heated rivalry in American soccer, dating back to the 1970s and the days of the North American Soccer League.

The Seattle Sounders have led the MLS in attendance for the past four years. And then there's the Portland Timbers, whose only real competition is the Trail Blazers, so you can understand why soccer has thrived so well, especially with a rival just over the state border.
Merritt Paulson, owner of the Portland Timbers, is an investor for the new franchise. All one has to do is look at the WNBA—which would have serious trouble existing without the generous backing of the NBA—to realized that even the smallest MLS involvement is pivotal. That, coupled with the backing of the soccer federations, could very well be the missing link to solving the so-far impossible U.S. women's soccer puzzle.
The league has pulled off a quick, four-month turnaround to the season opener, and the outlook is undeniably brighter than a year ago. But the most important factor in the new league's success could prove fatal once more: Do enough Americans care about women's soccer to sell tickets?
Check back in another three years.

Ospina has been told he will start the season on the bench due to the presence of first-choice keeper Wojciech Szczesny but will get his chance if he impresses in training.
"He [Wenger] told me that it all depends on me, my performances in training and then he will take a decision.
"I will have to adapt myself as quickly as possible [to the Premier League]. We all know it is very competitive."

Since signing for the Gunners in 2011, Campbell has spent time away on-loan with Lorient, Real Betis and Olympiacos.

The 27-year-old joined the Reds on tour in the USA to complete his move, but the deal fell through on Sunday.
Redknapp said: "Reports have come out that he failed a medical. That's not possible. He is a very fit lad, there has to be another reason."

Wayne Rooney is another who is impressing.

"We have a good connection on and off the pitch and I think he will give us a lot of good things this season.
"He can play quick, slow, dictate the rhythm of a game. He can score as well. He is a complete midfielder and can bring these qualities to the team.
"I enjoy playing with quality players like him and Wayne. We try and play the same way. Hopefully we can do good things for the fans and the club this season."

Cristiano Ronaldo is dead against Real Madrid signing Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.
The Daily Express says reports in Spain suggest that while Florentino Perez and Carlo Ancelotti both covet Suarez, Ronaldo remains less convinced.
Indeed, after winning the Champions League last season, Ronaldo is keen to continue playing alongside Karim Benzema rather than the Uruguayan hitman.
It is thought that Ronaldo believes that Benzema's selflessness and willingness to create space for others was crucial to his success last season.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is tightlipped on his goalkeeper plans.
Keylor Navas is expected to soon sign for Real from Levante.
Ancelotti remarked: "Keylor isn't a Real Madrid player. Right now we have the same three keepers as last year.
"We are in pre-season. Iker (Casillas) only started training today. For us the goalkeeper isn't an issue. Last year there were debates about it, but not for me. I'm going to decide at the start of the season who will be the starting keeper."

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has rejected interest from Liverpool.
The Daily Star Sunday says the Reds chief Brendan Rodgers ‘chanced’ an enquiry about the French ace, 26, a fortnight ago but was rebuffed – not by Madrid but by the player.
Real were prepared to listen to offers in excess of £35million after spending £65m on in James Rodriguez from Monaco.
The word back from Benzema’s agents, however, left Liverpool smarting when the player indicated they were not on his elite wish-list for a move.

European soccer matchup will bring World Cup feel to Charlotte

European soccer matchup will bring World Cup feel to Charlotte
Soccer’s International Champions Cup, featuring a game between Liverpool and AC Milan, is coming to Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Here’s what you need to know about the game between the two European powers:
Is it really part of a tournament? Yes, but not an official one. “Friendlies” featuring famous teams from Europe are now commonplace during the summer in the United States and organizing them into a tournament format is one way to do it (the final is Aug. 4 in Miami). Other teams in the ICC are England’s Manchester United and Manchester City, Italy’s AS Roma and Inter Milan, Spain’s Real Madrid and Greece’s Olympiacos.
Can Charlotte expect more of this kind of game in the future? Yes, city tourism and sports boosters are actively pursuing them and are confident they can land more matches. Their confidence is mostly based on advance ticket sales for the Liverpool-Milan game, which have reached about 60,000.
How are games selling elsewhere? Saturday’s Real Madrid-Manchester United game in 110,000-seat Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich., sold out within 30 minutes of going on sale in April.

Will there be a World Cup feel to the Charlotte game? Yes. Seven Liverpool players – midfielders Steven Gerrard, Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson, forwards Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling and defender Glen Johnson – played for the England team that was drummed out of the group stage. AC Milan had eight players in the World Cup, including striker Mario Ballotelli (Italy) and midfielder Keisuke Honda (Japan). Milan’s Sulley Muntari was one of Ghana’s players who was sent home during the World Cup for undisclosed reasons.
Is there a notable absence? Of course. When the matchup was announced in April, soccer fans in Charlotte thought they’d see Liverpool scoring-star Luis Suarez in action. Since then, of course, Suarez bit a player in the World Cup (the third time he’s done that), earning himself a long suspension from soccer. He’s since been sold to Barcelona.
What kinds of history do the teams have? They’re both among the most successful in the world. Liverpool has won more European titles than any team, including 18 English titles (second only to Manchester United in English history), five European Cups (now Champions League) and five FA Cups. The Reds finished second in the English Premier League last season after leading for most of the final several weeks. AC Milan finished a disappointing eighth in Italy’s Series A last season, but has won 18 league titles and seven Champions League titles.

Jose Mourinho: Signing Luke Shaw would have "killed" Chelsea

Jose Mourinho: Signing Luke Shaw would have "killed" Chelsea
Luke Shaw

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho claims he pulled out of a bid to sign left-back Luke Shaw this summer because his wage demands would have "killed" the club.
Shaw became the fourth-most expensive defender in history whenManchester United signed him earlier this month from Southampton for £27m.

Mourinho says Shaw's reported wages of around £100,000 a week were too large.
"If we pay to a 19-year-old boy what we were being asked for, to sign Luke Shaw, we are dead," said Mourinho.
"We would have killed our stability with financial fair play and killed the stability in our dressing room, because when you pay that much to a 19-year-old kid - a good player, fantastic player - but when you pay that amount of money, the next day, we would have had players knocking on our door.
"They would have been saying, 'How is it possible I play 200 games for this club, won this and that, yet a 19-year-old comes here and gets more money than I get?"'

BOYLE, Alta. -- An Alberta man has received a one-year sentence for his role in the theft of a ring belonging to Olympic curling champion Brad Jacobs.

Cardinal was also ordered to pay a $200 victim surcharge.
acobs and his team ordered the rings after their 2014 Sochi Games gold medal win.
A woman who is also charged in the case is set to make her first court appearance next month.
